Here is a preview for the autumn/winter ‘11 Ready-to-wear collection. This collection will be in-store March 2011.

I have begun exploring Tasmania’s colonial buildings in more depth.  Details in the garments include prints of buildings such as the servants outhouse at Woolmers Estate, Longford, Rose Cottage which was once a black-smiths at Jericho, and a small cottage in Oatlands.

Fabrics used in the new collection include Tasmanian and Australian wool, silk/linen blends, cotton, silk and leather trims.  I have continued using these natural fibres because of their handle and drape, and also their contextual appropriation within the concepts and narratives which inspired the collection.

For this collection I’m inspired by Tasmanian colonial architecture, both urban and rural.

On foot in the city

Without the cumbersome particulars of having a car, I’ve again been exploring Hobart on foot.  I find inspiration in the urban landscape, the chronology of the architecture and its shapes, lines, textures and colours.  Ideas of silhouettes, colours and patterns are falling into frame.

I walked from the city to the suburbs and back again, noticing the subtleties and the not so subtle transitions in the psychogeography.  Once out in the burbs walking along the main road, feeling quite exposed to the oncoming traffic, I witnessed a domestic out the front of a 1920’s town house.   After moving off the main roads I discovered large stand stone buildings, with ornate decorative detail, scattered around the landscape and tucked away behind all types of 20th century houses.

After walking through cityscapes, traversing the present context of sounds and shape, I was conjuring new silhouettes and references to architectural detail in garment designs and prints.
